Regarding the Martial Law Command's order on the 4th to return medical personnel, including residents on strike, through a proclamation, Choi Anna, spokesperson for the Korean Medical Association, stated that "currently, there are no residents on strike who have resigned."
At 12:23 AM on the 4th, Spokesperson Choi sent a KakaoTalk message to Asia Economy saying, "We are currently verifying the exact facts related to the state of emergency," and added, "To alleviate public confusion and anxiety, the medical field will operate normally under martial law."
She further said, "Once again, we tell the Martial Law Command that there are no residents currently on strike, and those former residents who have resigned are maintaining their respective positions, so please be careful not to cause any harm."
According to Article 5 of the Martial Law Command proclamation, all medical personnel, including residents who are on strike or have left the medical field, must return to their duties and work diligently within 48 hours. Violations will be punished under the Martial Law Act.
Earlier, President Yoon Seok-yeol held an emergency address around 10 PM the previous day and declared martial law.
