The Democratic Party convenes emergency party meeting and urgent supreme council... Han Dong-hoon to demand lifting of martial law

The People Power Party plans to hold an emergency party meeting followed by an urgent Supreme Council meeting on the 3rd in response to President Yoon Seok-yeol's declaration of martial law. Representative Han Dong-hoon intends to demand the lifting of the martial law, stating that President Yoon's declaration was a mistake.

The People Power Party announced through a press release in the afternoon that the emergency party meeting and urgent Supreme Council meeting will be held at the central party office in Yeouido.

Earlier, President Yoon stated in an emergency address at the Yongsan Presidential Office, "I declare martial law to protect the free Republic of Korea from the threat of North Korean communist forces, to eradicate the shameless pro-North anti-state forces who plunder our people's freedom and happiness, and to uphold the free constitutional order."

According to Article 77 of the Constitution, the president may declare martial law by law when it is necessary to respond to military needs or maintain public peace and order with troops during wartime, armed conflict, or a national emergency equivalent thereto.

The Ministry of National Defense held a meeting of key commanders across all forces and issued orders to strengthen emergency vigilance and readiness throughout the military.

In response, Representative Han released a statement saying, "The president's declaration of martial law is a mistake," and added, "We will stop it together with the people." He further emphasized on his Facebook, "We will immediately demand the lifting of martial law at the National Assembly level."
