The prison sentence of rapper A, a former member of an idol group who was prosecuted for secretly filming sexual intercourse scenes while blindfolding his ex-girlfriend, has been finalized.
On the 3rd, the Seoul Western District Court announced that A submitted a waiver of appeal, indicating he would not contest the second trial verdict. A debuted as a member of a group in 2017 and ceased activities from 2019 due to health reasons.
Earlier, on the 28th of last month, the Criminal Appeals Division 1 of the Seoul Western District Court (Chief Judge Im Min-seong) sentenced A, who was charged with filming and distributing using a camera under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, to 1 year and 4 months in prison. The original sentence’s orders to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment programs and to restrict employment for 3 years at institutions related to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities were upheld. The court stated the sentencing rationale, saying, "Overall, considering the form of filming and the resulting footage, it appears the degree of sexual humiliation caused was significant," but also noted, "There is no evidence that the footage was distributed, and considering that Mr. Choi is a first-time offender."
A was charged with illegally filming his ex-girlfriend B, whom he was dating from July 2022 to May last year, 18 times using a silent camera app after blindfolding her, capturing sexual intercourse scenes and major parts of her body. He is also accused of filming woman C, whom he met at a bar in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in her underwear on four occasions in July last year. So far, the police have identified a total of three victims.
