Busan Port Authority Selected as the Best Innovative Organization in the Port Logistics Industry

Eco-friendly Ship Bunkering Demonstration, Enhancing Sustainability and Competitiveness of Port Logistics Industry

Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) announced that it was selected as the leading institution driving innovation in the port logistics industry at the ‘2024 Port Logistics Industry Innovation Competition’ hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, receiving the Grand Prize on the 3rd.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries annually discovers and awards outstanding innovation cases in various fields to enhance the efficiency of the domestic port logistics industry and increase user satisfaction with port facilities.

Busan Port Authority was previously recognized as the top innovative institution in port operations for preventing logistics paralysis caused by the Cargo Solidarity strike through the reorganization of the cargo transfer operation system in 2022, and for job creation and environmental improvement through the localization of port handling equipment in 2023.

This year, BPA was highly evaluated and selected as the top innovative institution for contributing to the establishment of a sustainable port system based on eco-friendly fuels by successfully demonstrating LNG and methanol bunkering, building a collaborative network with related organizations, preparing the nation’s first bunkering safety accident response manual, and operating an incentive system to encourage shipping companies’ participation in demonstrations.

Additionally, BPA received a commendation from the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries for port operation development for its efforts in improving local air quality by adopting the Ministry’s slow-speed vessel operation program, securing the highest number of participating vessels among domestic ports through annual performance analysis and self-initiated improvement measures based on field communication.
