Kim Dong-geun, mayor of Uijeongbu, submitted the 2025 budget proposal and expressed his determination to continue citizen-centered welfare and future-oriented city administration despite financial difficulties.

Mayor Kim Dong-geun announced next year’s city administration direction and major achievements during the 2nd regular session of the 333rd council held on the 2nd.


Mayor Kim emphasized that “even amid unprecedented crises, we can leap forward through cooperation and innovation,” highlighting the successful attraction of five companies this year, including the Cloud Data Center, LH Northern Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters, BioGansolution, Uijeongbu Nonghyup Complex Cultural Facility, and an investment agreement with Seegibio.


Mayor Kim stated, “Through corporate attraction, we have laid the foundation to transform Uijeongbu into a corporate city,” and added, “We will do our best to attract additional companies by utilizing returned military concession areas such as Camp Jackson.”


He also evaluated that Uijeongbu has reemerged as a transportation hub in northern Gyeonggi Province with the groundbreaking of GTX-C and the expansion of metropolitan bus routes, announcing plans such as the introduction of demand-responsive transit (DRT) connecting Minrak and Gosan districts with Byeollae Station on Line 8, and the promotion of the GTX-F line.


Mayor Kim said, “We will reduce commuting inconveniences for citizens with faster and more convenient transportation networks.”


Mayor Kim also explained that to transform Uijeongbu into an ecological city, natural urban spaces such as Jungnangcheon Ecological Stream, Jail Forest Bathing Area, and Singok Saebit Garden have been transformed into healing and cultural experience spaces for citizens.


The next year’s budget is set at 1.4833 trillion won, an increase of 106.5 billion won compared to this year. The general account is 1.2896 trillion won, and the special account is 193.7 billion won. In particular, the social welfare budget is 787 billion won, accounting for 61% of the total general account budget, marking the highest level among cities and counties nationwide.


Mayor Kim cited corporate attraction and transportation infrastructure improvement as major achievements and emphasized that Uijeongbu will strengthen its role as the center of northern Gyeonggi Province. He also mentioned that Uijeongbu was selected as a northern metropolitan hub city in the ‘2040 Metropolitan Area Urban Plan’ and explained that efforts to improve the transportation environment and urban development plans will be actively pursued.


Mayor Kim presented the main city administration directions for 2025 as protecting socially vulnerable groups and building social infrastructure, attracting companies and investing in future growth, creating walkable cities, establishing transportation networks befitting a northern Gyeonggi hub city, and fostering a wellness city.


In particular, he announced plans to expand senior citizen jobs to 5,000, an increase of more than 600 from the previous year, and to actively promote the designation of an economic free zone utilizing returned U.S. military concession areas such as Camp Jackson.


Mayor Kim also stated that, aiming to realize a citizen-centered wellness city, policies encompassing physical and mental health, culture, and lifelong learning will be promoted. He said, “We will develop the Nokyang-dong Sports Complex into a citizen-centered leisure sports town and operate the Baek Young-su Art Museum as Uijeongbu’s first municipal art museum to enrich citizens’ lives.”
