Changmin Kim and Sungwoo Jeong, doctoral candidates in the Department of Earth Environmental System Science at the Graduate School of Pukyong National University, each received the Excellent Academic Presentation Award at this year’s Fall Conference of the Korean Geotechnical Society.
The conference, held recently at Jeju Hanwha Resort, featured a total of 15 sessions including lectures on high-level radioactive waste disposal facilities and special sessions by international experts, where around 100 papers were presented, facilitating academic and research exchanges.
At the conference, Changmin Kim presented the paper titled “A Study on Estimating Diffusion Tortuosity of Adsorptive and Non-adsorptive Solutes According to Types of Low-Permeability Media” (Advisor: Minjun Yang), earning the Excellent Academic Presentation Award.
In his paper, he was recognized for presenting research results that estimated diffusion tortuosity according to types of low-permeability media and analyzed correlations by applying 2-D diffusion chamber experiments with adsorptive and non-adsorptive solutes and utilizing one-dimensional diffusion analysis.
Sungwoo Jeong received an award for presenting “Evaluation Abiotic Hydrogen Production Potential Among Rock Facies in the Korean Peninsula: Insights from Experimental Water-Rock Interaction” (Advisor: Minjun Yang).
Jeong was acknowledged for his achievements in evaluating the natural hydrogen productivity of basalts distributed in Korea through laboratory-scale water-rock reaction experiments and conducting various analyses to interpret the natural hydrogen production mechanisms by water-rock interactions.
