Netflix variety show "Black and White Chef: Culinary Class War" (hereinafter Black and White Chef) has begun recruiting participants for season 2.


"Black and White Chef" is a cooking variety program where 100 contestants compete in a survival competition for the title of top chef, ranging from underground master chefs to the country's top star chefs. After season 1 became a huge hit, ranking first in the Netflix Global Top 10 Non-English category for three consecutive weeks?the first Korean variety show to do so?season 2 production was confirmed.


On the 3rd, Netflix released a participant recruitment video featuring messages from judges Baek Jong-won, CEO of The Born Korea, and chef Ahn Seong-jae. In the video, CEO Baek said, "I hope a contestant appears whom even I did not know," emphasizing, "Age and experience don't matter; if you have the confidence to cook deliciously, you should challenge yourself. It just needs to be delicious." Chef Ahn expressed hope, saying, "It would be great if we could discover unknown black chefs like mining diamonds," encouraging underground master chefs to apply.


Regarding the judging criteria, CEO Baek stated, "The judging criteria should not change just because it's season 2," adding, "From start to finish, it's all about taste." Chef Ahn said, "I think we need to be a bit more objective," and "I need to firmly hold onto my own standards." When asked if being more objective is possible, he replied, "You're smiling now, right? That's because there is no cooking at the moment."


Furthermore, CEO Baek spoke about reuniting with Chef Ahn, saying, "If he appears, I think I need to come prepared this time," and "I won't bend my opinion until the end." Chef Ahn also expressed determination, saying, "If I enter, I am ready to accept it," and "It's not about fighting with the CEO, but about not losing."


"Black and White Chef" season 2 is scheduled to be released in the second half of next year.
