Uiryeong-gun Operates 'New Public Official Supporters' to Engage MZ Generation Public Officials

Forming Teams by Pairing Senior and New Public Officials
Helping Adaptation and Building Bonds

Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is operating a New Public Officials Supporters program to help newly appointed public officials settle into stable public service careers.

The "New Public Officials Supporters" program was designed to empathize with MZ generation public officials and establish a pleasant organizational culture through mutual understanding among members.

Ten senior public officials form teams with 35 new public officials to share team activities. Through hands-on close support, they enhance the work execution capabilities of new officials and help them adapt to the organization by fostering a sense of camaraderie.

The county expects the program to aid MZ generation public officials in their early adaptation to public service, instill a sense of mission as public servants, and improve their capabilities to drive regional development.

At the supporters’ pairing ceremony, mentors and mentees from each team had time for communication and empathy, exchanging various ideas to create a public service environment where new officials want to stay.

Earlier, on November 29, 35 new public officials explored local tourism resources such as Chungiksa Shrine, Uiryeong Militia Museum, Sotbawi Rock, Hoam Lee Byung-chul’s birthplace, and Gwanjeong Lee Jong-hwan’s birthplace, spending time discovering tourism projects suitable for the younger generation. In particular, they renewed their commitment as Uiryeong-gun public officials by visiting and paying respects at the Uiryeong 4.26 Memorial Park.

Jung Dong-hyun, a staff member of the Civil Service Department, said, “As senior public officials, we will systematically pass on accumulated experience and know-how to help rookie officials overcome the initial difficulties of public service life.”

Ha Seung-yong, a staff member of the Extinction Crisis Response Promotion Team, said, “I felt awkward and anxious, but I am grateful for the warm welcome from senior officials. The lively and comfortable atmosphere is reassuring,” adding, “With youthful energy, I will become a new catalyst for the development of Uiryeong-gun.”

In this way, Uiryeong-gun is taking a step closer to winning the hearts of MZ generation public officials with policies such as implementing a “long-term service leave” system starting next year to boost the morale of low-ranking public officials.

They have prepared various welfare benefits including backpack culture training, support for using recreational facilities, operation of professional psychological counseling programs, and expansion of welfare points.

County Governor Oh Tae-wan stated, “The young and fresh ideas of newly appointed public officials, who have become new family members, will lead the changes in Uiryeong-gun,” adding, “We will help them continue a rewarding public service life through better welfare and organizational culture improvements.”
