The First Step to Spreading Garden Culture in Daily Life
Grand Prize Honor 'Green Garden'
Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Seo Tae-won) held the awards ceremony for the "1st Pretty Garden Contest" on the 2nd at the county office's large conference room. This event was organized for the first time this year to discover gardens carefully cultivated by residents and to spread garden culture in daily life.

The contest was divided into two categories: private residential gardens and neighborhood gardens such as cafes, with a total of 31 gardens participating. Judging was conducted through document evaluation and on-site evaluation by three garden experts. The evaluation criteria included garden design and aesthetics, plant diversity, completeness, and maintenance status.
As a result of the judging, the grand prize was awarded to the "Green Garden" (garden owner Lee Beom-ik, Gairi, Seorak-myeon), which was designed and created by the owner for his wife undergoing cancer treatment. This garden received high praise from the judges for its diverse plants, harmonious arrangement, and high level of completeness.
In the category awards, for private residential gardens, △ the grand prize went to "Cozy Hanok Garden" (garden owner Lee Eun-hye), △ excellence awards were given to "Hoejeongdang" (garden owner Kim Shin-ja) and "My Hometown Where I Lived" (garden owner Ahn Sang-hoon). In the neighborhood garden category, △ the grand prize was awarded to "Gapyeong Byeolseo Garden" (garden owner Lim Hee-jung), △ excellence awards went to "171 Tourist Farm" (garden owner Namgung Gu) and "Sage Garden" (garden owner Choi Sung-jin). Additionally, the "Sangcheon 1-ri Village Association Garden" (garden owner Choi Sung-nam) received a special award.
Gapyeong-gun boosted pride by presenting the winning garden owners with Pretty Garden plaques and governor’s certificates at the awards ceremony.
Governor Seo Tae-won said, "I thank the residents who showed great interest and participation in the Pretty Garden Contest held for the first time this year," adding, "We will continue to discover excellent gardens and utilize them as tourism resources to provide spaces of healing and happiness for residents and tourists."
Gapyeong-gun plans to continue efforts to spread garden culture and revitalize local tourism through this event.
