Yeongam-gun Selected as an Outstanding Local Government in the Life Respect Safe Village Contest

The Only One Among Jeonnam Local Governments

Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Woo Seung-hee) was recently selected as an excellent local government for the Ministry of Health and Welfare's '2024 Life Respect Safe Village' and secured 10 million KRW in national funds as an incentive project budget.

According to the county on the 3rd, the Life Respect Safe Village is a national project that utilizes resources from towns and townships to spread awareness of life respect among residents and establish a suicide prevention safety net. Yeongam-gun was the only area in Jeollanam-do selected for the Life Respect Safe Village contest this year and signed agreements with 43 organizations to carry out various projects.


A total of 1,381 residents participated in related life guardian education, 26 campaigns were conducted, and 45 cases of high-risk group linkage were achieved. This year, the project was implemented in four towns and townships: Yeongam-eup, Samho-eup, Sijong-myeon, and Geumjeong-myeon, with plans to expand to six towns and townships starting next year.


Choi Moon-hyung, Director of Yeongam-gun Public Health Center, stated, “We will do our best to create a safe Yeongam-gun by enhancing the effectiveness of suicide prevention projects through the use of community resources and networks, and by gradually expanding the Life Respect Safe Village.”
