Pocheon-si Selected as ‘Best Institution’ in 2024 Public Sewerage Operation and Management Performance Evaluation

Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Young-hyun) announced on the 3rd that it was selected as the best institution in the ‘2024 Public Sewerage Operation and Management Performance Evaluation’ and received the Minister of Environment Award on the 28th of last month.

The Ministry of Environment evaluates the operation and management status of public sewerage systems nationwide every year, dividing the evaluation targets into four groups according to population size.

Pocheon City achieved the great feat of being selected as the best institution by receiving high evaluations in 40 items, including sewer safety management response capability, treatment plant and pipeline maintenance, sewage sludge resource recovery rate, and carbon neutrality practice, among 38 local governments belonging to Group 2 (population between 100,000 and less than 300,000).

The award ceremony was held at the ‘2024 Sewerage Workshop’ at The Ocean Resort in Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do. Pocheon City received a plaque and prize money, and shared its achievements with officials from local governments nationwide by presenting the ‘Pocheon City Public Sewerage Operation and Management Best Practices’.

Mayor Baek Young-hyun of Pocheon City said, “I am pleased that the efficiency of operating and managing our city’s sewerage facilities scattered across the urban and suburban areas, which was considered difficult, has been recognized through this award,” and added, “We will continue to strive to improve the service level of public sewerage facilities and operate them more solidly as eco-friendly facilities centered on citizens through odor reduction and carbon neutrality practices.”
