The Air Force, which had been overlooked due to its long service period, is experiencing a surge in application rates. This appears to reflect recent improvements in service conditions such as salary increases, as well as practical circumstances requiring personal time for employment and job searching.
According to the Air Force application status for enlistment in March next year, 13,214 people applied for 1,308 recruitment spots, pushing the competition rate beyond 10 to 1. In particular, for Air Force medical personnel, 198 applicants competed for 9 positions, recording a 22 to 1 ratio. This shows a significant difference compared to the Marine Corps' competition rate of 1.7 to 1 during the same period. The perfect score for the first round of Air Force document screening, including bonus points, is 105, and last month's cutoff score was 99, the highest this year.
Despite the disadvantage of a service period three months longer than the Army, the Air Force is considered advantageous because personal time is guaranteed. Additionally, the monthly salary for a sergeant will increase by 250,000 KRW to 1,500,000 KRW next year, and with government subsidies, it exceeds 2,000,000 KRW. It is interpreted that applicants are flocking with the thought that they can save more money due to the longer service period. In fact, various online communities easily show related comments such as "The Air Force is so sweet that it's not even hard," "It's a hundred times better than working part-time at a convenience store," and "It's the best place to save money."
Some voices are calling for an analysis of the reasons behind the Air Force's popularity, considering the improvement in treatment of military personnel.
