Attending the Cathedral Reopening Ceremony on the 7th
President-elect of the United States Donald Trump announced that he will attend the reopening ceremony of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, on the 7th (local time).
On the 2nd (local time), Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social, "I am honored to depart for Paris, France on Saturday to attend the reopening ceremony of the magnificent and historic Notre-Dame Cathedral, fully restored after the terrible fire five years ago," adding, "French President Emmanuel Macron has done a great job ensuring Notre-Dame Cathedral can regain its former glory. It will be a very special day for everyone."
Notre-Dame Cathedral, which suffered significant damage from the 2019 fire, is set to reopen on the 7th after five years of reconstruction. According to the Associated Press, about 50 national leaders are expected to attend the two-day event starting on the 7th. This will be Trump’s first foreign visit since winning the presidential election on the 5th of last month.
Bloomberg News highlighted that Trump’s visit to Paris comes at a critical time for France. Currently, France is engulfed in political turmoil as the opposition has played the no-confidence card against the government following Prime Minister Michel Barnier’s use of a 'parliamentary passing' to push through next year’s budget. President Macron will become the third foreign leader to meet with Trump after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Argentine President Javier Milei, both of whom visited the Mar-a-Lago resort following the U.S. presidential election.
