Gwangju City Receives 'Excellent' Rating in National Weather Observation Standardization Evaluation Gwangju City Hall building exterior.

Gwangju City announced on the 3rd that it was selected as an excellent institution in the Korea Meteorological Administration's (KMA) first nationwide evaluation of 'Meteorological Observation Standardization.'


Meteorological observation standardization is a system that comprehensively diagnoses and evaluates the maintenance of meteorological observation facilities and quality management status to improve the quality of meteorological observation data jointly used by the KMA and local governments.


The city was highly evaluated for its efforts in quality management of meteorological observation data, such as regularly inspecting on-site meteorological observation equipment and strengthening monitoring to manage the collection rate of meteorological observation data and the calibration of meteorological observation devices.


To prepare for the increasing natural disasters and respond to localized heavy rainfall caused by abnormal climate, the city operates a rainfall gauge installation and rainfall observation system, providing standardized rainfall information to citizens through the KMA.


Shin Min-seok, head of the Natural Disaster Division, said, “This result proves Gwangju City's response capabilities to the increasing natural disasters. We will continue to do our best to provide accurate meteorological information to citizens.”
