The Goyang-Eunpyeong Line is a 15 km long route connecting Saejeol Station (Eunpyeong-gu) on Seoul Subway Line 6 to Hwajeong District, Changneung District, Haengsin Jungang-ro in Goyang City, and finally to Goyang City Hall Station. It is being promoted as part of the metropolitan transportation improvement measures for the Changneung District.
With a total project cost of 1.7167 trillion KRW, eight stations will be constructed. The target opening year is 2031. The trains will operate using a rubber-tired light rail system (K-AGT).
Upon opening, the Goyang-Eunpyeong Line is expected by MOLIT to alleviate chronic traffic congestion in the northwestern metropolitan area, including Changneung District and Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul. Currently, it takes 50 minutes by bus and 35 minutes by car from Goyang City Hall Station to Saejeol Station, but using the Goyang-Eunpyeong Line will reduce travel time to around 20 minutes.
Gyeonggi Province, the project implementing agency, plans to immediately begin the 'basic and detailed design' work following this basic plan approval. They intend to systematically manage the project by simplifying various administrative procedures.
Kang Hee-up, Chairman of the Metropolitan Transport Commission, stated, "We will actively work to expand other transportation modes such as roads and buses connected to the Goyang-Eunpyeong Line so that residents can use more convenient and safer metropolitan transportation services." He added, "We also plan to promptly approve the basic plans for the metropolitan railway projects extending Seoul Subway Line 9 to the Wang-suk District in Namyangju City, which is being promoted together with Changneung District, and the Songpa-Hanam Line (Line 3 extension) to the Gyosan District in Hanam City."
