"Flight Attendants No Longer Assist with Passenger Luggage"…Asiana Airlines Regulation Change

Explained Regulation Changes to Protect Flight Attendants' Health

Asiana Airlines will change its baggage storage policy starting next year, requiring passengers to place their carry-on luggage themselves in the overhead bins above their seats.

Asiana Airlines announced on the 2nd that from January 2nd next year, passengers will be required to store their carry-on luggage in the overhead bins themselves.

Until now, cabin crew members would place or retrieve luggage from the overhead bins upon passengers' requests. Asiana Airlines explained that this policy change was made to protect the health of crew members, who frequently suffered bruises or injuries to their hands or arms during this process. However, crew members will continue to assist passengers with mobility challenges such as the disabled, elderly, and pregnant women who have difficulty lifting heavy luggage.

Asiana Airlines stated, "We ask for your understanding that crew members will not be able to lift passengers' luggage in order to prevent injuries to both passengers and crew during repeated assistance."

Additionally, Asiana Airlines announced that it will strictly enforce the carry-on luggage weight limit of 10 kg to prevent injury risks during the loading and unloading process. Luggage exceeding this weight must be checked in.

However, the size restrictions for carry-on luggage have been relaxed. Previously, luggage size was limited to 40 cm in width, 20 cm in depth, and 55 cm in height. From now on, there will be no separate limit on each dimension, as long as the total sum of width, depth, and height is less than 115 cm.

Among domestic airlines, Korean Air and Jin Air have clear regulations requiring passengers to stow their carry-on luggage themselves. Crew members provide appropriate assistance to passengers with mobility challenges.
