The Gieoknamu Rest Area is a program operated twice a week for three hours a day over three months starting August 19, targeting elderly people with mild dementia. It provides cognitive, physical, and emotional support through various classes such as tone chimes, line dance, rattan craft, safe gardening, woodworking, calligraphy, and cooking practice.
An elderly participant in the program said, “I used to feel bored being alone at home, but by joining the rest area program, I made friends I could open my heart to and had a great time experiencing various activities I usually couldn’t do.”
Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri said, “Congratulations to the elderly who successfully completed the regional rest area programs. We will continue to operate more beneficial and enjoyable rest area programs to reduce the caregiving burden on families of dementia patients and help elderly dementia patients live their daily lives healthily and safely.”
The regional Gieoknamu Rest Areas operate year-round with ongoing registration for mild dementia patients, and related inquiries can be made to the Dementia Safety Center.
