Biological terrorism, which can cause mass casualties using bacteria, viruses, fungi, toxins, etc., requires prompt and accurate initial response, making it crucial to strengthen rapid and precise response capabilities.
Recently, awareness of biological terrorism threats has been increasing daily due to various threats such as North Korean waste balloons and unidentified overseas mail sent last year.
About 40 personnel, including Yeongyang 119 Safety Center, Yeongyang Police Station, and Yeongyang-gun Public Health Center response teams, participated in the drill to cultivate rapid and accurate response to suspected biological terrorism incidents, appropriate situation handling skills, and to strengthen organic cooperation among related agencies. The training included △ biological terrorism preparedness and response systems and initial measures △ use of multi-detection kits and specimen transportation methods △ practice and education on donning and doffing personal protective equipment (Level A, C).
Jang Yeo-jin, director of the public health center, stated, “In the event of a suspected biological terrorism case, rapid and accurate initial response is most important,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to protect the lives of residents and ensure safe living in times of crisis.”
