The Urban Awards are comprehensively evaluated by a panel of experts in four categories (social, economic, environmental, and support systems). The first round is a written evaluation divided into basic indicators and policy indicators, and the second round selects 2 to 3 times the number of potential winning cities based on the first round’s written evaluation. Then, judges visit the sites to assess presentations by the local governments. Finally, the nationwide evaluation results are decided at the evaluation committee meeting.

In this year’s evaluation, aligned with the city administration goal of ‘A Hopeful Leap, a Greater Mokpo that Youth Seek,’ the city received excellent evaluations for establishing a dedicated youth policy department, strengthening residential conditions, implementing numerous youth-tailored support policies, and formulating mid- to long-term population policies responding to demographic changes.

Mokpo City’s five consecutive years of winning the Korea Urban Awards is regarded as a meaningful achievement recognizing its efforts to enhance urban competitiveness across all fields including urban society, economy, and environment.

Mayor Park Hong-ryul stated, “With high interest in Mokpo due to large-scale sports events such as the National Sports Festival and tourism policies, our city has earned the honor of winning the award for five consecutive years through innovative efforts. We will continue to strive to make Mokpo a vibrant self-sufficient city where social, economic, environmental, residential, industrial, and cultural aspects harmonize.”
