Actor Song Kang-ho apologized for using the expression 'agijagihada' (meaning 'cute' or 'charming') to describe women's volleyball.


On the morning of the 2nd, Song Kang-ho held a media interview for the film '1seung' at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Before the interview, he expressed his apologies regarding remarks he made at the '1seung' premiere.


Song Kang-ho explained, "Recently, I chose the wrong words, which seemed to have made many volleyball fans uncomfortable. Volleyball is a sport with a very wide spectrum, and it naturally has strong and powerful energy. Besides that, it also has detailed techniques, strong teamwork, and intricate strategic plays, making it endlessly enjoyable to watch?that was the meaning behind my comment." He continued, "Having done many interviews, I realize I used inappropriate words. I feel very sorry," and bowed his head, saying, "I apologize to those who felt uncomfortable because of my wrong words and actions. I am sorry."


Earlier, at the '1seung' press premiere held on the 28th of last month, he said, "Since it's volleyball season these days, I watch volleyball broadcasts almost every day," and added, "I enjoy watching because of the charming aspects unique to women's volleyball." Following this, debates among netizens about Song Kang-ho's remarks continued on social media. Some netizens responded with comments such as, "Where is there anything 'charming' in sports?" "It belittles the players' efforts," and "You wouldn't say that if you got hit by a 'charming' spike." On the other hand, some defended Song Kang-ho's remarks, saying, "It doesn't seem to have been said with a bad meaning," and "In the past, players also used the word 'agijagi' (charming)."


Meanwhile, Song Kang-ho debuted in 1990 with the play 'Choi Seonsaeng' and has appeared in numerous hit films such as 'Green Fish,' 'Shiri,' 'Joint Security Area (JSA),' 'Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance,' 'Memories of Murder,' 'The Host,' 'Secret Sunshine,' 'Miryang,' 'Thirst,' 'The Front Line,' 'Snowpiercer,' 'The Attorney,' 'The Age of Shadows,' 'A Taxi Driver,' and 'Parasite,' establishing himself as one of Korea's top actors. He is scheduled to meet audiences with the upcoming release of '1seung' on the 4th and has confirmed his appearance in the drama of the same name, 'Insiders,' based on the film 'Inside Men.'
