Under the theme of "Sharing Warmth for Three Generations, Happy Gwangju," the ceremony began with awards recognizing about 40 volunteers who dedicated themselves to their neighbors throughout the year, followed by a special performance by the Pyongyang Art Troupe for the volunteers.
The event was meaningfully organized to invite not only volunteers but also their families, allowing three generations to enjoy together, reflect on the significance of volunteering, and share its value.
In particular, this year marked a new establishment of the meaning and value of volunteering, with volunteers contributing to all Gwangju city festivals such as the 2024 Gyeonggi-do Dream Tree Soccer Tournament, the 2024 WASBE World Wind Conference, the 27th Gwangju Royal Ceramics Conference, and the 22nd Toechon Tomato Festival.
Bang Se-hwan, Chairman of the Gwangju Volunteer Center, said, "The warmth shared through the volunteers' warm hands made Gwangju a warmer city, and the cooperation shown by volunteers throughout the year made Gwangju a happier city. We look forward to the active participation of volunteers in the successful hosting of the 2026-2027 Gyeonggi-do Comprehensive Sports Festival. The Gwangju Volunteer Center will strive to become a center that grows together with volunteers under the vision of 'Volunteering Together Across Three Generations, a Newly Leaping Happy City Gwangju.'"
