Police Investigate 8 Members of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions at the 'Yoon Seok-yeol Resignation Rally'... Some Booked

The police announced that they are conducting investigations on eight individuals in connection with the physical clashes with the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) that occurred during the 'First General Rally for the Resignation of the Yoon Seok-yeol Administration.'

At a regular press briefing on the 2nd, Kim Bong-sik, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, explained, "We are sequentially analyzing secured evidence such as video footage and analyzing related individuals," adding that some of the accused and those who have completed investigations have been booked, and the process will continue accordingly.

A police official commented on whether Yang Kyung-soo, Chairman of the KCTU, has been booked, saying, "Some have been reported, and some have been selected through our own evidence collection," and added, "So far, eight individuals have been confirmed as investigation targets among the executive members. The number may change as the investigation progresses."

Since the 27th of last month, the police have been conducting successive summons investigations of the heads of organizations under the union. They are suspected of violating the Assembly and Demonstration Act and causing general traffic obstruction. Additionally, the police are investigating not only the union executives but also ordinary rally participants. The Seoul Namdaemun Police Station announced that it has sent police appearance requests to 20 rally participants based on the analysis of collected evidence. The number of investigation targets is expected to increase depending on the evidence analysis results.

On the 11th of last month, among 11 KCTU members and citizens arrested for leaving the designated rally area and assaulting police officers during the rally demanding the resignation of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, the police applied for arrest warrants for four individuals with serious charges. However, the court dismissed the arrest warrants, stating, "At this stage, it is difficult to recognize the grounds, necessity, and reasonableness for detention."
