Committed to Fulfilling Social Responsibility through Public Safety and Digital Platform Government Implementation

Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) signed a business agreement on the 28th of last month with Korea Electric Power Technology to jointly develop virtual reality (VR) safety experience content.

The signing ceremony, held at the headquarters of Korea Electric Power Technology in Gimcheon-si, Gyeongbuk, was attended by the head of the Safety Guidance Department of Seoul Metro and the director of the Nuclear Power Technology Research Institute of Korea Electric Power Technology, among others.

The two organizations agreed to collaborate on building integrated VR content regarding the response guidelines for citizens and employees in the event of a subway fire. Seoul Metro will provide urban railway environmental information and fire response manuals necessary for content development, while Korea Electric Power Technology will participate in content development based on its experience and know-how in developing VR training systems.

Seoul Metro plans to complete the development of new VR content by the second half of next year and apply it to the Digital Citizen Safety Experience Center at Banpo Station on Line 7. It is expected that immersive subway fire situation training will enhance the crisis response capabilities of passengers and employees during emergencies.

The Digital Citizen Safety Experience Center, located on the first basement floor of Banpo Station on Line 7, allows visitors to experience how to respond to safety accidents that may occur in the subway.

It consists of ▲ safety video education ▲ virtual reality (VR) safety experience ▲ simulated train driving experience ▲ safety equipment wearing experience ▲ cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator training, and anyone can use it free of charge through reservation on the Seoul Metro website.

Furthermore, the two organizations have committed to cooperating to expand the application of new VR content to other urban railway organizations in the future, spreading safety awareness nationwide and fulfilling their social responsibility to realize a digital platform government.

Park Byung-seop, Head of Safety Management Headquarters at Seoul Metro, said, “It is very meaningful to jointly develop VR safety experience content specialized for urban railway organizations through the agreement with Korea Electric Power Technology. We will contribute to improving the safety culture of citizens and employees through the use of VR safety experience content and strive to fulfill our social responsibility as a public institution.”
