EU Leadership Makes Surprise Visit to Ukraine's Capital
Russian forces carried out weekend nighttime airstrikes targeting Ukraine, resulting in 28 casualties, Ukrainian authorities announced on the 1st (local time).
According to dpa news agency and others, Russian forces launched missiles and attack drones at Ukraine from the night before until early morning on the day.
The Ukrainian military intercepted all 78 drones coming from Russia, but one missile that was not shot down fell near the village of Zarichanka, close to the industrial city of Dnipro in central-southern Ukraine.
The missile destroyed residential buildings and shops, killing 4 people and injuring 24. Among the injured, 18 were hospitalized, including an 11-year-old boy.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that battles took place across the frontlines in eastern, northern, and southern Ukraine on the day, resulting in the loss of 1,565 Ukrainian troops. They also added that strikes were carried out on Ukrainian airfields, drone assembly factories, and other military facilities using fighter jets, drones, and rockets.
Meanwhile, EU leadership made a surprise visit to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, on the 1st, the day their new term began.
