Kim Min-jae Claims 6th Victory in 10 Tournaments This Year
At the Yeongam Indoor Gymnasium on the 1st, Kim Min-jae of the Yeongam Folk Ssireum Team received the championship trophy from Woo Seung-hee, the governor of Yeongam County, after being crowned Cheonhajangsa at the 2024 Cheonhajangsa Ssireum Festival. Provided by Yeongam County
Kim Min-jae of the Yeongam-gun Folk Ssireum Team was crowned Cheonhajangsa at the Cheonhajangsa Ssireum Tournament.
On the 1st, at the Withus Pharmaceutical 2024 Cheonhajangsa Ssireum Festival Cheonhajangsa Final (best of five, first to three wins) held at the Jeonnam Yeongam Indoor Gymnasium, Kim Min-jae defeated Kim Ji-yul (Ulsan Ulju County Office) 3-0 to claim the Cheonhajangsa title.
Kim Min-jae, who joined this year, overwhelmed Kim Ji-yul, who had caused a rookie sensation by reaching the finals, without losing a single round, using dazzling techniques such as pushing and belt wrestling, brilliantly concluding the season's final match held in his hometown Yeongam.
After becoming Cheonhajangsa, Kim Min-jae shared a warm embrace with coach Kim Ki-tae and shed tears as he savored the joy of victory. Kim Min-jae also received a 100 million won performance improvement bonus due to injury.
Kim Min-jae said, “I was eliminated in the preliminaries at the first tournament of the year and went through a slump, making it a tough competition that brought me to tears,” adding, “I am grateful to coach Kim Ki-tae, Yeongam County Mayor Woo Seung-hee, and everyone who supported me for helping me become Cheonhajangsa at the last tournament held in my hometown Yeongam.”
Kim Min-jae is currently in his prime, having won six out of ten national tournaments held this year.
