The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Tae-hee) announced on the 1st that it completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) teacher training linked to the 2022 revised curriculum for general school teachers from the 15th to the 30th of last month. This was intended to actively utilize the International Baccalaureate program to strengthen the teaching and assessment capabilities of elementary and secondary school teachers based on the 2022 revised curriculum.

About 120 elementary and secondary school teachers participated in the training, divided into two groups. The high interest and enthusiasm of teachers in the province were evident, with about 700 applicants in advance.
The training was conducted separately for elementary (PYP) and secondary (MYP) levels. It focused on practical curriculum design of the International Baccalaureate program linked to the 2022 revised curriculum, emphasizing the enhancement of teachers' expertise in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. To this end, the training process was composed of △ understanding concept-based curriculum and the International Baccalaureate (IB) program △ designing concept-based curriculum units △ designing assessments and feedback △ sharing results and reflection.
In particular, this training is significant in that it aimed to expand the International Baccalaureate teaching and learning approach to general schools and strengthen teachers' lesson design and assessment capabilities linked to the 2022 revised curriculum.
The Provincial Office of Education plans to support participating teachers to apply the inquiry-based learning methods of the International Baccalaureate program in general school settings and to serve as leading teachers who enable deeper lessons.
Jo Hyo-jin, a teacher at Maewon Middle School who participated in the first training session, said, “It was an opportunity to understand the teaching philosophy and strategies according to the International Baccalaureate system and to learn various teaching methods such as designing in-depth lessons through questioning.”
Lee Jeong-hyun, Director of the Educational Competency Policy Division at the Provincial Office of Education, said, “If teachers understand the 2022 revised curriculum and the International Baccalaureate program and apply concept-based inquiry learning in schools, it will greatly help enhance students' creativity and thinking skills. We will continue to plan and operate various training programs to strengthen teachers' teaching and assessment capabilities.”
