National Police Agency YouTube Video "The Hidden Truth"
Confession of a Thief... Turns Out to Be a Drug Courier
A drug courier falsely confessed to being a thief to hide his crime, but his true identity was eventually uncovered thanks to the police's keen observation.
On the 29th, the official YouTube channel of the National Police Agency uploaded a video titled "The Truth Hidden Behind a Brazen Confession." The video showed an incident that occurred on the 21st at a one-room building in Gwangju. According to the video and the Gwangju Nambu Police Station, at around 8:48 PM, a 112 emergency call was received reporting "a stranger entered the one-room building." The caller was a nearby resident who became suspicious after seeing a man, identified as Mr. A, wandering in the building corridor with his hat pulled down.
The police who arrived at the scene blocked Mr. A, who was struggling with residents over identifying himself, and requested an identity check. Mr. A told the police that he had come to steal discarded electronics and parcels and actively cooperated with the investigation by showing his face. When the police informed him of the charge of attempted nighttime residential burglary, he nodded and readily admitted to the accusation. He even voluntarily extended both hands to be handcuffed.
The police arrested Mr. A on the spot, but they could not shake off a suspicious feeling. While surveying the surroundings, the police discovered a black bag in a corner. Mr. A acted as if the bag did not belong to him, but after the police repeatedly asked if it was his possession, he eventually had to admit it.
After handing him over to the police station, the police searched his bag to check for weapons and other items. First, two mobile phones were found inside the bag. Then, upon a thorough search inside the bag, 129 thumb-nail-sized objects wrapped in black insulating tape were found under a water bottle. These objects were 1g portions of methamphetamine. Mr. A was not a simple attempted thief but a drug "thrower" (a courier who leaves drugs at a specific location for buyers to pick up without face-to-face contact).
Subsequently, the police discovered and seized approximately 500g of methamphetamine at the lodging where Mr. A was staying, and arrested him on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
