Russian Deputy Foreign Minister on Resuming Nuclear Tests: "Under Review on All Fronts"

On the 30th (local time), according to Russia's TASS news agency, Sergey Ryabkov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, said in an interview that when asked whether Russia intends to resume nuclear tests in response to escalating tensions with the United States, "Nothing can be predicted, but I can only say that the situation is very complicated," adding, "All factors and all aspects are being constantly reviewed."

Russia has not conducted nuclear tests for over 30 years since 1990, before the collapse of the Soviet Union. However, President Vladimir Putin recently withdrew Russia's ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which bans all nuclear tests, and has strengthened nuclear threats by revising nuclear doctrine after Ukraine attacked the Russian mainland with Western missiles.
