With this Phase 4 expansion, Incheon Airport has risen to become the world's third-largest mega airport with an annual capacity of 106 million passengers.

Hanwha Construction Division was responsible for the expansion work on the east side of Incheon Airport T2, from the 2nd basement floor to the 5th floor above ground, for a total of 47 months from November 2020 to October this year. The west side was handled by the HJ Heavy Industries consortium. The interior of Incheon Airport was completed as a cutting-edge terminal where eco-friendly spaces and the latest information and communication technology (ICT) harmonize together.

T2 is conceptualized as an eco-friendly airport that breathes with nature. The east side constructed by Hanwha Construction Division recreated Seungjeongjeon of Changdeokgung Palace, themed on a traditional Korean garden. This outdoor garden uses traditional plantings to provide a diverse atmosphere. Passengers using the airport can feel as if they are outdoors even while inside.

Meanwhile, Hanwha Construction Division applied Building Information Modeling (BIM) to the T2 expansion project and successfully carried out advanced processes such as baggage handling system optimization, sprinkler optimal placement, irregular ceiling panel modeling, and lift-up method behavior prediction simulation. As a result, it received the Grand Prize at the 'BIM Awards 2022.'

Kim Min-seok, Head of Architecture Business Division at Hanwha Construction Division, said, "Our company has successfully completed complex buildings by applying BIM to various structures including T2, Inspire Entertainment Resort, and Ansan Kakao Data Center," adding, "We will continue to apply BIM to a wider range of buildings in the future."
