Yoon's Second Half Term First Livelihood Forum
Main Agendas: No-Show Prevention, Commission Reduction
Preparing Policies to Address Perceived Polarization
President Yoon Suk-yeol will hold a public discussion forum on livelihood issues in early next month to discuss support measures for small business owners and self-employed individuals. Key topics are expected to include measures to prevent no-shows (No-Show·reservation cancellations) and easing the burden of delivery fees.
A presidential office official met with reporters at the Yongsan Presidential Office on the afternoon of the 29th and said, "In early next month, President Yoon plans to visit local sites directly and discuss support plans for small business owners and the self-employed in the form of the first livelihood discussion forum of the second half of his term."
The forum will be held under the theme "Small Business Owners and Self-Employed Running Again, Vibrant Neighborhood Commercial Districts."
According to the presidential office, the discussion will mainly focus on easing various burdens such as fees through private sector collaboration, resolving major difficulties and regulatory issues troubling small business owners and the self-employed such as no-shows, and revitalizing local commercial districts using creative ideas from the private sector.
The presidential office official explained, "We will discuss policies that small business owners and the self-employed can feel directly and reflect on-site opinions in the policies."
Earlier, the government announced support measures totaling 36 trillion won for small business owners and the self-employed in two rounds in July and October this year. However, since livelihood difficulties remain significant, additional support measures will be discussed in the form of the first livelihood discussion forum of the second half of the term.
The presidential office official emphasized, "Small business owners account for 95% of all companies and 46% of employment," adding, "The self-employed make up 20% of all employed persons, serving as the foundation and backbone of our economy."
The presidential office will also announce additional measures to address polarization in the future.
The presidential office official said, "Currently, the presidential office is focusing on discovering policies that can be tangibly felt by three major groups related to overcoming polarization: youth, small business owners and the self-employed, and the underprivileged and socially vulnerable," adding, "These will be announced at an appropriate time."
They added, "One goal is to provide opportunities through social ladders to become middle class, and to create a growth structure where the warmth of growth is evenly spread and operates as a new growth engine."
