Safe Houses for female victims of violence utilizing rental housing will be expanded to the northern Gyeonggi region. Gyeonggi Province and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) Northern Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters signed a written "Business Agreement for Safe Support for Female Victims of Violence" on the 29th.

According to the agreement, LH Northern Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters will provide rental housing, considering nearby safety facilities, convenience facilities, and transportation, as safe accommodations for female victims of violence who require urgent separation measures due to stalking, dating violence, domestic violence, and other cases. The province will support operating expenses including rent, manage the accommodations, and provide integrated support services such as psychological, medical, and legal counseling for the victims.

Since last year, Gyeonggi Province has been operating 13 safe houses in cooperation with LH Southern Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters in Suwon, Seongnam, Hanam, Osan, Hwaseong, and other areas. The safe houses provide an environment where victims and their family members can live separately, allowing them to maintain daily life such as work and child-rearing. Another major advantage is that residents can enter with their pets, promoting the psychological stability and continuity of life for the victims.

Through this agreement, Gyeonggi Province plans to expand operations to the northern Gyeonggi region, initially opening two new safe houses in the Uijeongbu area. The province intends to continue expanding the safety net in the northern Gyeonggi region through additional safe house acquisitions and various support projects.

A provincial official stated, "This agreement establishes an important foundation to protect victims of gender-based violence in the northern Gyeonggi region," and added, "We will closely cooperate with local communities and provide various services to prevent gender-based violence and support victims so that victims in the northern Gyeonggi region are not marginalized."

Meanwhile, since April of this year, Gyeonggi Province has been operating the "Gyeonggi Province Gender Violence Integrated Response Team" to respond to various gender-based violence and blind spots. Additionally, to improve victims' access to services, the province plans to establish the "Northern Base of the Gyeonggi Province Gender Violence Integrated Response Team" by 2026 to further strengthen support for victims of gender-based violence in the northern Gyeonggi region.
