Park Sang-min and Horan Also Three Strikes Out
Singer Gil, whose license was revoked under the three-strike drunk driving rule, has announced his comeback.
The three-strike drunk driving rule means that if a person is caught driving under the influence three or more times administratively, their driver's license is revoked regardless of their blood alcohol concentration. Criminally, if a person with two or more drunk driving offenses within three years is caught driving under the influence again with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.05% or higher, they are automatically subject to arrest and investigation.
On the 28th, Gil posted on his SNS, "Ten years ago, the invincible Geumgangbulgoe, who was hit twice by MC Yoo Jae-suk for the first time in his life and suddenly disappeared, was sought out by the production team. Were they able to meet him? Please watch a lot." He also uploaded a photo. The photo contained the message: "The man who has never been hit even once in his life. He who has lived without any gaps returns. Invincible, go away. Clowns of the Garasidae, rise up. Ten years have already passed. Now everyone rise and announce to the world the launch of the Gil Seong-jun channel that will shine." Gil brought back the character concept of "Geumgangbulgoe," which he portrayed as a fixed member on MBC's "Infinite Challenge."
Gil was first caught for drunk driving in 2004. When caught again in 2014, he left MBC's "Infinite Challenge" and stopped all broadcasting activities. Later, in 2016, he resumed broadcasting activities as a judge on Mnet's "Show Me the Money 5," but in 2017, he was caught driving under the influence again while heavily intoxicated. He was sentenced to six months in prison with a two-year probation and 80 hours of community service.
There are other celebrities who have been subject to the three-strike drunk driving rule. Actor Park Sang-min, famous for the "General's Son" series, was punished for drunk driving in 1997 and 2011, but in June of this year, he was caught drunk driving again and had his license revoked.
Clazziquai's Horan also caused social controversy due to three drunk driving offenses. In 2016, she was caught driving under the influence and left the shows she was appearing on. At that time, she caused an accident by hitting a cleaning vehicle parked on the road near the southern end of Seongsu Bridge. Her blood alcohol concentration was 0.101%, which is at the license revocation level. Afterwards, Horan was fined 7 million won and received a summary indictment. The sanitation worker sitting in the driver's seat of the vehicle suffered injuries requiring two weeks of treatment. She had also been fined for drunk driving in 2004 and 2007.
