On the 28th, Mayor Kang visited the National Assembly and met with Park Sang-woo, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, to actively request support for major projects including △Yangju Gwangseok Residential Land Development Project △the establishment of a Hi-Pass exclusive IC at the Yangju City Joint Comprehensive Funeral Facility.

The ‘Yangju Gwangseok Residential Land Development District’ was designated as a district in December 2007, and after consultation and compensation in November 2009, demolition of obstacles was completed. However, development has been delayed to date, leaving the land abandoned and surrounded by unsightly fences, causing various damages to local residents and even leading to regional decline.

In 2015, LH’s project liquidation was decided, and local residents, Yangju City, and Gyeonggi Province strongly advocated for the project’s resumption. In 2018, LH decided to resume and proceed with the project, but following the 2023 audit by the Board of Audit and Inspection, the project was halted, and currently, a demand survey service is underway.

Accordingly, in March, Mayor Kang requested the reestablishment of the project plan and commencement of construction based on the demand survey results conducted by LH Korea Land and Housing Corporation for the ‘Yangju Gwangseok Residential Land Development Project,’ and urged that the opinions of the city and local residents be heard and reflected during the project plan reestablishment process.

He added, “The prolonged neglect of the ‘Yangju Gwangseok Residential Land Development District’ has increased anxiety among local residents,” appealing for encouragement and countermeasures from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport toward LH, the project executor, to ensure smooth project progress.

He also delivered a joint petition from the six mayors of the jointly promoting cities, requesting the establishment of a ‘Gwangbaek Reservoir Lower Hi-Pass Exclusive IC’ that would allow direct access from the Seoul-Yangju Expressway to the ‘Yangju City Joint Comprehensive Funeral Facility.’

Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju City stated, “I will devote efforts to ensure that local key projects proceed without any setbacks through close communication with government ministries.”
