Violation of Departure Ban Regulation During Gale Warning in Effect

The West Sea Regional Coast Guard Agency (Chief Lee Myung-jun) has caught eight fishing vessels that secretly set sail in violation of control regulations amid a gale warning issued for all waters off the southern West Sea of Jeollanam-do.

According to the West Sea Coast Guard on the 29th, on the 28th, eight fishing vessels under 10 tons violated the sailing ban during the gale warning and set out to fish but were caught by the Coast Guard.

According to the Fishing Vessel Safety Operation Act, when a weather advisory is issued, the head of the maritime police station, who is the reporting authority for port entry and exit, can restrict the departure of fishing vessels, and violations may result in administrative sanctions such as suspension of fishing permits.

The Coast Guard plans to report the eight fishing vessels that violated the sailing ban to the relevant local governments for administrative action on charges of violating the Fishing Vessel Safety Operation Act.

A West Sea Coast Guard official said, “Regardless of enforcement, we urge compliance with regulations on matters directly related to the safety and lives of the public.”
