Yangju City is establishing itself as a leading city in cultural autonomy by holding three forum events over about a month to build public consensus on cultural tourism policies and establish the 2029 cultural autonomy vision.
During the three sessions, approximately 150 participants including related organizations, groups, and activists took part, focusing on gathering opinions from experts and citizens from various perspectives to derive the 2029 cultural autonomy vision.
The 1st forum held on the 14th was themed "A Place of Empathy," featuring expert presentations and a workshop to derive the cultural autonomy vision. The 2nd forum on the 20th, themed "A Place of Sharing," involved a visit to Chuncheon City, selected as an excellent cultural city, to benchmark best practices.
The 3rd forum, themed "A Place of Coexistence," was conducted in three parts: Part 1 ▲ Cultural Autonomy Vision Derivation Workshop, Part 2 ▲ Expert Presentation (Professor Yeom Il-yeol of Seojeong University), Part 3 ▲ Presentation of Cultural Tourism Policy Proposals by Citizens ▲ Delivery of the Cultural Autonomy Vision created directly by citizens.
Through the total of three forums, the 2029 cultural autonomy vision created by citizens, titled "Yangju, a People-Centered Cultural City Where Our Lives Become History," was adopted. Lee Kwang-ho, chairman of the Hoecheon New Town Union, delivered the vision to Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju City as a representative of the citizens. The "People-Centered Cultural City Yangju" signifies a city where citizens' lives are enriched through cultural experiences and culture becomes a part of daily life.
In particular, the vision delivery ceremony included the presentation of a handprint vision frame symbolizing the participation and commitment of Yangju citizens, which moved attendees and drew great applause.
