Matias Franke, Chilean Ambassador to Korea, Visits Changwon City
On the 29th, Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, met with Mathias Francke, Ambassador of Chile to Korea, in the city hall reception room to discuss hydrogen energy industry and cultural exchange plans.
Chile was the first Latin American country to announce a national hydrogen strategy and is actively promoting policies for transitioning to a hydrogen economy, including expanding the use of green hydrogen. This raises expectations for mutually beneficial cooperation with Changwon, Korea’s leading hydrogen city.
Mathias Francke, Ambassador of Chile to Korea, and Lucas Pavez, Consul of Chile to Korea, attended the ‘2024 International Hydrogen Electric Energy Exhibition’ held at Changwon Convention Center on the 28th as seminar speakers, presenting on Chile’s green hydrogen policy.
On the 29th, they visited Seongju Hydrogen Charging Station and Bumhan Fuel Cell, expressing great interest in Changwon as a leading hydrogen industry city and its corporate sites.
Ambassador Mathias Francke said, “I have fond memories of visiting Changwon when the Chilean team won the 2022 Changwon K-POP World Festival,” adding, “It is meaningful to visit Changwon again, and through this visit, I was impressed by the excellent corporate capabilities and hydrogen infrastructure of Changwon, Korea’s hydrogen-centered city.”
Mayor Hong Nampyo stated, “We support Chile’s eco-friendly hydrogen policies and efforts for sustainable energy development,” and added, “Along with the recent decision by the Korean and Chilean governments to expand cooperation in energy, hydrogen, and minerals based on their strategic partnership, Changwon City also hopes to see active international friendly exchanges in various fields such as hydrogen energy industry, culture, and tourism driven by the Korean Wave, so that the cooperative relationship between the two countries can develop as Changwon leads the international hydrogen industry.”
