Mayor Kim Kyung-il "We will improve inconveniences and provide safe and convenient transportation services"
Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 29th that it was selected as an excellent institution among eight cities in Group B in the 2024 Gyeonggi-do transportation sector city and county evaluation, recognizing its significant efforts to alleviate citizens' public transportation inconveniences through transportation innovation.
The transportation sector evaluation is divided into four groups, A to D, according to the total population of cities and counties. It aims to discover and spread excellent transportation policies through evaluations of major transportation items. The evaluation covers a total of 31 indicators across 18 items in five fields: △General Transportation △Traffic Safety △Taxi Administration △Public Transportation △Transportation Information, based on performance over the past year.
Last year, Paju City promoted projects such as the transition and increase of metropolitan buses under the quasi-public operation system and improvement of bus stop facilities to establish a pleasant public transportation service. It was recognized for enhancing public nature and convenience by launching rural-type smart buses and establishing and increasing quasi-public village buses, thereby improving citizens' convenience in using public transportation, earning excellent results.
Additionally, to enhance mobility convenience for transportation-vulnerable groups, the city introduced and operated special transportation means and low-floor buses, and operated urban transportation model routes and public taxis to guarantee mobility rights for residents in transportation-disadvantaged areas, receiving favorable evaluations for contributing to the realization of transportation welfare.
Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju City said, “Paju City’s selection as an excellent institution in the 2024 Gyeonggi-do transportation sector evaluation is thanks to the active investment of budgets to expand metropolitan transportation infrastructure and the efforts of related officials to improve the public transportation environment.” He added, “We will continue to improve citizens’ inconveniences and provide safe and convenient transportation services.”
