Trump Cabinet Nominee and US Democratic Lawmaker Both Receive 'Bomb Threats'

Following the cabinet nominees of President-elect Donald Trump, Democratic lawmakers from Connecticut received bomb threat warnings.

Federal House Representatives Jim Himes, Jahana Hayes, Joe Courtney, John Larson, and Federal Senator Chris Murphy each issued statements revealing that they had received bomb threat warnings at their homes.

Representative Hayes stated that she was informed at the local police station that she had received a threatening email claiming a pipe bomb was placed in her home mailbox that morning. Local and state police responded, but no explosives were found.

Representative Himes also said, "I received a bomb threat notice targeting my home this morning," adding, "After the police's swift and thorough response, no evidence of a bomb was found."

The FBI is investigating in cooperation with other agencies but has not disclosed detailed information about the investigation.

The previous day, the Trump transition team revealed that there were bomb threats and swatting (false crime reports causing armed police to respond) targeting the next administration’s cabinet nominees.

The transition team did not disclose the victims but mentioned former House Representative Lee Zeldin, appointed as EPA Administrator; Brooke Rollins, head of the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) and nominee for Secretary of Agriculture; Representative Elise Stefanik, nominated as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations; Howard Lutnick, co-chair of the transition team and nominee for Secretary of Commerce; former House Representative Matt Gaetz, who resigned amid allegations of soliciting minors; Representative Lori Chavez-DeRemer, nominated for Secretary of Labor; and Pete Hegseth, nominee for Secretary of Defense.

AP News referred to two assassination attempts against President-elect Trump during the campaign period and assessed that "these threats are a result of an election season marked by violence."
