Juwon, CEO of SangSangin Securities, Joins the 'ByeBye Plastic Challenge'

Sangsangin Securities (CEO Joo Won) announced on the 29th that CEO Joo Won has joined the environmental protection campaign ‘Bye Bye Plastic Challenge.’ The ‘Bye Bye Plastic Challenge’ is a nationwide relay campaign initiated by the Ministry of Environment to reduce unnecessary plastic use in daily life. It began on June 5, 2023, in celebration of Environment Day.

CEO Joo Won pledged to say goodbye to plastic and practice eco-friendliness by ▲using reusable products instead of disposable ones ▲separately disposing of products he used ▲reducing the use of wet wipes and plastic straws.

Sangsangin Securities, along with its parent company Sangsangin and major affiliates such as Sangsangin Savings Bank and Sangsangin Plus Savings Bank, has been consistently carrying out sincere eco-friendly management activities.

Sangsangin Securities has installed tumbler washers in break rooms to create an environment where reusable cups can be easily used. Not only employees but also external visitors can use this device, leading the effort to reduce disposable product usage. Additionally, Sangsangin Securities is working to establish a resource circulation system by installing separate disposal bins in the break rooms.

The Sangsangin Group is actively promoting a campaign encouraging the use of reusable products, with participation from all affiliates. Sangsangin Savings Bank provides beverages in tumblers instead of disposable cups at the in-house caf? located at its headquarters. Collection bins for returning reusable cups are installed in break rooms on each floor, and tumblers provided by the caf? are reused through an internal recovery system. Continuous efforts are made to ensure employees have no inconvenience in using tumblers, helping to establish a carbon reduction culture.

Moreover, an eco-friendly pricing policy offers beverages such as Americano for 100 won when using personal tumblers, increasing employee participation in the campaign. This is estimated to have reduced plastic cup usage worth approximately 20 million won annually. Since August, the group has also encouraged the use of water purifiers instead of disposable bottled water.

At the end of 2022, the Sangsangin Group introduced employee uniforms made from 100% recyclable eco-friendly materials. These uniforms are estimated to have contributed to reducing indoor temperatures, saving fuel costs, and cutting approximately 78 tons of carbon dioxide annually, while also protecting employees’ body temperature during winter.

Since 2021, the Sangsangin Group has been promoting a ‘Walking Project’ for four years to participate in environmental protection by reducing carbon footprints and improving employee health. The project encourages walking in daily life, such as using stairs for nearby floors, walking to and from work for short distances, and using public transportation for longer distances, allowing employees to protect their health while contributing to environmental protection.

CEO Joo Won of Sangsangin Securities joined the ‘Bye Bye Plastic Challenge’ upon the recommendation of Um Ju-seong, CEO of Kiwoom Securities, and nominated Park Hyun-cheol, CEO of Bukook Securities, as the next participant.

CEO Joo Won of Sangsangin Securities said, “Under the Sangsangin Group slogan ‘Let’s protect the health of our bodies and the Earth together,’ we have been striving to reduce plastic use in daily life, such as using tumblers. We will continue to encourage the use of reusable products to raise environmental awareness for future generations and fulfill our corporate social responsibility.”
