Boeringer Ingelheim Korea Animal Health announced on the 29th that its 'Keung Keung Kung Kung Campaign' has concluded with great response from dog owners.

The 'Keung Keung Kung Kung Campaign' is an awareness campaign aimed at effectively promoting the importance of managing the health of companion dogs. 'Keung Keung Kung Kung' is a coined term inspired by the sniffing sound 'keung keung' dogs make during walks and the healthy heartbeat sound 'kung kung,' conveying a message beyond just a campaign name.

This campaign emphasizes three key practices for managing the health of companion dogs: ▲ a light walk once a day ▲ deworming once a month ▲ and a heart checkup once a year. A daily light walk can have positive effects on both the physical and mental health of dogs and their owners. For a healthy and safe walk, the monthly use of external deworming agents is also strongly recommended. Regular annual heart checkups to manage the heart health of companion dogs are another important factor in helping pet families maintain a happy and long-lasting life together.

Dr. Kim Nahyun, a veterinarian at Boeringer Ingelheim Korea Animal Health, said, “Early-stage heart disease is often asymptomatic, so early detection is very important. If diseases are detected early through regular annual heart checkups and appropriate treatment is administered, the progression of heart disease can be significantly slowed.” She added, “The incidence of heart disease is higher in small dog breeds,” emphasizing the importance of regular heart checkups especially for small breeds.

Monthly regular deworming management should not be overlooked either. Tick-borne infectious diseases such as Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (SFTS) and Babesiosis are zoonotic diseases that can be transmitted to humans, posing fatal risks to both dogs and their owners, making preventive management crucial.

To effectively convey these messages, the 'Keung Keung Kung Kung Campaign' continuously organizes various participatory events and activities. On November 9th, the first offline event was held at The Book Hangang R branch, the country’s first pet-friendly Starbucks store. At this event, over 200 dogs and more than 500 owners participated in a walking program at the pet park of The Book Hangang R branch, practicing ‘a walk once a day’ and sharing a meaningful time together.

Owners walked along the walking course with their dogs, learning about the importance of walking and external parasite management, and obtained information about small breeds known to be prone to heart disease. Participants expressed great satisfaction with the event, which was held in a nature-friendly space where they could enjoy time with their dogs.

Moon Hyoji, PM in charge of the campaign at Boeringer Ingelheim Korea Animal Health, said, “The Keung Keung Kung Kung Campaign is not a one-time event but an ongoing effort to continuously raise awareness among dog owners about the importance of regular walks, external parasite prevention, and heart checkups.” She added, “We will continue to support healthy companion dog lifestyles through various programs and content.”
