Yongsan-gu Hosts 'Itaewon Art Week' at Four Locations Including BBCB and Nyapi
Itaewon clubs are transforming into media art exhibition spaces. Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) announced on the 29th that from the 5th to the 8th of next month, 'Itaewon Art Week' will be held at four locations: Club BBCB (Beton Brut, Concrete Bar), Nyapi, Parlor Seoul, and Pistil. Five contemporary media artists from three countries, including Korea, Belgium, and Australia, will participate in Itaewon Art Week.
This exhibition is part of the Itaewon local brand commercial district strengthening project, aiming to shed new light on the local culture of clubs, lower the cultural entry barriers of Itaewon, and spread the value of the area. It will operate from 5 PM to 10 PM on the 5th and 6th, and from 1 PM to 6 PM on the weekend of the 7th and 8th.
The opening ceremony will be held as an invitation-only event throughout the operating hours on the 5th at BBCB. There will be artist talks, DJ performances, and live music performances. The participating artists are Park Yoo-seok, Shin Jae-young, Hwi (Korea), Eva Giola (Belgium), and Dave Court (Australia). The exhibition is free for everyone to attend.
Eva Giola and Dave Court have received international acclaim for their uniquely artistic works that creatively embody their distinct brand identities at events such as the Rotterdam International Film Festival and the Venice Biennale. Park Yoo-seok, Shin Jae-young, and Hwi, who are active in Korea, have exhibited various works at venues including the Park No-soo Art Museum, the Nam June Paik Art Center, and the Suncheonman National Garden, gaining great public response.
Visitors who visit all four clubs where the exhibition is held and get their stamps to certify their attendance will receive souvenirs such as T-shirts and pouches.
District Mayor Park Hee-young said, “This Itaewon Art Week will serve as a bridge connecting Itaewon’s culture and the public beyond a simple art exhibition,” and added, “We will also do our best to ensure visitor safety by deploying security personnel and managing visitor flow within the exhibition spaces.”
