From the 26th to December 12th, Si-Busan Global City Foundation... 'Busan-ASEAN Week' Held
1 PM on the 29th at Busan Esports Stadium, 'Busan-ASEAN Esports Global Exchange Match'
Busan City and the Busan Global City Foundation (CEO Jeon Yong-woo) are holding the ‘Busan-ASEAN Week’ from the 26th of last month to December 12th to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Busan-Surabaya sister city relationship and the 15th anniversary of the Busan-Phnom Penh sister city relationship, as well as to strengthen exchanges between Busan and ASEAN.
Hosted by Busan City and organized by the Busan Global City Foundation, ‘Busan-ASEAN Week’ is an event that has been held annually since 2020 to commemorate the 2019 Korea-ASEAN Special Summit and the 1st Korea-Mekong Summit held in Busan. It promotes Busan as a ‘global hub city’ and strengthens cooperation between Busan and ASEAN through various ASEAN-related events.
Now in its 5th year, ‘Busan-ASEAN Week’ features programs that allow residents from ASEAN countries living in Korea to participate directly.
The three main programs include ▲Busan-ASEAN Esports Global Exchange ▲Invitation of ASEAN Diplomatic Corps in Korea to Busan ▲Busan-ASEAN Week Commemorative Talk.
In particular, the main event, the ‘Busan-ASEAN Esports Global Exchange,’ will be held at 1 p.m. on the 29th at the Busan Esports Stadium. It is a participatory exchange program where foreign residents living in Busan and Busan youth form amateur teams to enjoy together, expected to provide a lively platform for exchange between Busan and ASEAN youth.
The exchange event is co-organized by the Busan Global City Foundation and the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency.
The main schedule includes ▲Opening Ceremony (Opening Remarks - Congratulatory Speeches - Armband Presentation Ceremony - Celebration Performance, etc.) ▲Busan-ASEAN Representative Team Exchange (Battlegrounds game preliminary and final matches) ▲Side Events (University Special Matches, Global Game Experience Zone, Battlegrounds Photo Zone, Prize Draw, etc.) ▲Awards Ceremony.
A total of 28 teams will participate, including 17 teams from ASEAN countries across 10 countries including Korea, and 11 teams from 4 universities in the Busan area, with about 350 spectators expected to enjoy the event together.
The 10 participating countries are Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brunei, and Korea. The four participating universities in Busan are Kyungsung University, Busan University of Foreign Studies, Dongmyung University, and Dong-Eui University.
Anyone, including citizens and foreign residents, can watch for free, and side events are also free to participate in.
Additionally, the ‘Busan-ASEAN Week Commemorative Talk’ will feature a special session to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Busan-Surabaya sister city relationship, the 15th anniversary of the Busan-Phnom Penh sister city relationship, the 75th anniversary of Korea-Philippines diplomatic relations, the 40th anniversary of Korea-Brunei diplomatic relations, and the upcoming 30th anniversary of the Busan-Ho Chi Minh sister city relationship in 2025.
The Philippine Ambassador to Korea and representatives of Cambodian, Indonesian, Bruneian, and Vietnamese international students will appear on Busan English Broadcasting to share meaningful stories about the relationship between Busan and ASEAN, exchanging experiences and visions.
Lee Jun-seung, Busan City Deputy Mayor, stated, “Through this ‘Busan-ASEAN Week,’ we will further solidify the cooperative relationship between Busan and ASEAN, providing an opportunity for Busan and ASEAN to become closer. We ask for the strong support and encouragement of our citizens.”
