Suspicion of Collusion Between Yongyeop Contracting Firms
Ministry of Culture Requests Prosecutors' Investigation
The prosecution conducted a search and seizure at the Pyeongchang Winter Training Center following suspicions of collusion between the Korea Sports Council and a contracted service company, after previously investigating the National Training Center for Athletes in Jincheon, Chungbuk.
The Criminal Division 6 of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Sang-hyuk) sent prosecutors and investigators to the National Training Center for Athletes in Jincheon, Chungbuk, on the morning of the 28th to secure related materials. They are also conducting a search and seizure at the Pyeongchang Winter Training Center.
A prosecution official stated, "We are conducting a search and seizure on a case requested for investigation by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism," adding, "We cannot disclose specific investigation targets or the status of the investigation."
Earlier, the Korea Sports Council signed a service contract worth 7 billion KRW in February last year with a company for managing athlete village facilities.
In May, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested a prosecution investigation, suspecting collusion between this company and senior officials of the Korea Sports Council related to the contract.
