The prosecution requested a heavy sentence of 12 years in prison for former special prosecutor Park Young-soo, who was brought to trial on charges related to the so-called 'Daejang-dong 5 billion Club suspicion.'
On the 28th, at the sentencing hearing for former special prosecutor Park on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (bribery, etc.), held at the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 33 (Presiding Judge Kim Dong-hyun), the prosecution requested 12 years in prison, a fine of 1.6 billion won, and a confiscation of 1.75 billion won.
The prosecution stated, "Former special prosecutor Park held the highest position in a financial institution, which requires a high degree of integrity, yet he completely denied his crimes and showed no remorse," adding, "He also betrayed social expectations by shamelessly accepting a large sum of 1.1 billion won while forgetting his status as a special prosecutor, which should be considered in sentencing," thus making this request.
Former special prosecutor Park was indicted in August last year on charges of receiving 800 million won in collusion with former special prosecutor aide Yang Jae-sik while serving as an outside director, chairman of the board, and audit committee member of Woori Bank around 2014-2015, in exchange for accommodating consortium requests from private developers related to the Daejang-dong development project, promising real estate worth approximately 20 billion won. He is also accused of receiving 500 million won from Kim Man-bae, a major shareholder of Hwacheon Daeyu and a former journalist, in exchange for obtaining a letter of intent for a loan worth about 150 billion won from Woori Bank, and later being promised 5 billion won.
The prosecution believes that when it became difficult for former special prosecutor Park to receive the 5 billion won directly, he received 1.1 billion won through his daughter, who worked at Hwacheon Daeyu.
The prosecution requested 6 years in prison, a fine of 600 million won, and a confiscation of 150 million won for former special prosecutor aide Yang, who was indicted alongside former special prosecutor Park.
