Shock Over Trump's Election Victory with "Uwaak"... 'Group Scream' Performance Gains Attention

20 Wisconsin Women Gather and Scream Together
Analysis of 'Election Stress' Relief Effects

On November 5, following Vice President Kamala Harris's crushing defeat to President-elect Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential election, a video showing shocked supporters screaming together has become a hot topic online, Fox News reported on the 27th (local time).

The video, posted on the social networking service (SNS) Facebook on the 9th, shows about 20 female residents of Wisconsin screaming in unison toward Lake Michigan, one of the Great Lakes. The residents were also seen hugging and comforting each other after screaming until they could no longer make a sound.

Tamara Gibson, a Wisconsin resident who posted the video, described it as "a wonderful morning of primal screams gathered at Claude Park in Whitefish Bay to release pain and frustration after the election," adding, "If you zoom in on the video, you can also see Trump supporters proudly waving flags on the hill."

Another video shared by Gibson shows women who have accepted the election results gathering in a circle to encourage each other. When one woman in the group said, "We need to start organizing," and "There is an opportunity to regain the legislature within the state of Wisconsin in two years," other women applauded.

Wisconsin, along with Pennsylvania and Michigan?key battleground states in this election?was a 'Blue Wall' swing state that Vice President Harris had to hold, but all were lost to President-elect Trump. Fox News reported, "This 'primal scream' event was to relieve the pain and frustration that followed the election," adding, "In the past, on the first anniversary of the 2016 election, protesters led by progressive groups gathered in Washington D.C. and screamed into the air."

In the United States, the term 'Post-Election Stress Disorder' (PESD), a play on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), reflects the intense emotional investment in elections. After the last presidential election, reports emerged that the number of users of 'Kraken,' a space in Washington D.C. where people relieve 'election stress' by breaking plates and wooden boards with hammers and other weapons, increased significantly.

The mental health specialist site BetterHelp pointed out, "The COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare, racial discrimination, economic crisis, climate change, and laws related to transgender rights often dominate the news," adding, "While staying connected to national news can be valuable for some, following these issues daily can negatively affect an individual's mental and physical health."
