'Firefighter Hero Guardians' Campaign Supports Firefighter Morale and Life Stability
S-OIL (CEO Anwar Al Hizazi) held the ‘Firefighter Hero Awards Ceremony’ on the 28th at the Locus Hotel in Yongsan, in collaboration with the Korea National Council on Social Welfare (Chairman Kim Seong-i), awarding plaques and a total of 90 million KRW to eight ‘hero firefighters.’

At the ceremony, S-OIL presented a plaque and 20 million KRW to Fire Lieutenant Yoo Seung-geol (Namyangju Fire Station, Gyeonggi), who was selected as the ‘Top Hero Firefighter’ by a judging panel composed of firefighting experts. Additionally, plaques and 10 million KRW each were awarded to seven other ‘hero firefighters,’ including Fire Sergeant Kim Kwang-su (Cheongsong Fire Station, Gyeongsang).
Fire Lieutenant Yoo Seung-geol, honored as the ‘Top Hero Firefighter,’ was recognized for his outstanding dedication and rescue activities, including rescuing one person through underwater search during a drowning accident in Changhyeon-ri, Hwado-eup, Namyangju City in June 2024; responding to and extinguishing a warehouse fire in Ilpae-dong, Namyangju City in April; safely rescuing a missing person with intellectual disabilities in Wabu-eup, Namyangju City; and safely rescuing a severely demented elderly person in the winter of 2023. His record includes 978 fire incidents and 1,624 rescue operations.
Seven other firefighters were selected as the ‘2024 Hero Firefighters’ for their self-sacrificing spirit in saving lives at fire and various disaster scenes: Fire Sergeant Kim Kwang-su (Cheongsong Fire Station, Gyeongsang), Fire Lieutenant Kim Yong-su (Yeongjong Fire Station, Incheon), Fire Lieutenant Kim Wook (Dunsan Fire Station, Daejeon), Fire Lieutenant Seong Hoon (Jincheon Fire Station, Chungbuk), Fire Sergeant Yoon Sung-yeol (Pyeongtaek Fire Station, Gyeonggi), Fire Lieutenant Lee Dae-sik (Dongbu Fire Station, Jeju), and Fire Lieutenant Jo Jong-seok (Dalseong Fire Station, Daegu).
S-OIL CEO Anwar Al Hizazi said, “I was deeply impressed by the firefighters’ dedication in risking their lives to save others at various fire and accident scenes. We take pride in our role as protectors of firefighter heroes and will continue to provide ongoing support.”
Since 2006, S-OIL has continuously supported firefighters through its Firefighter Hero Keeper campaign for 19 years, offering systematic programs such as condolence payments to families of fallen firefighters, scholarships for children of fallen firefighters, medical expenses for injured firefighters, and rest camps for firefighter couples.
