Gwangjin-gu Architects Association, Konkuk University, Sejong University Showcase Models and Designs
Expert Lectures and Documentary Screenings...Open to All Interested Participants
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will hold the architectural cultural festival ‘Gwangjin Architecture Festa’ at the district office auditorium from December 2 to 4.
Now in its second year, the ‘Gwangjin Architecture Festa’ is a planned exhibition introducing various architectural cultures. Hosted by the Gwangjin-gu Architects Association (President Shin Geun-sik), it showcases architectural models and photographic works representing the region. In addition to the exhibition, special lectures and film screenings are also prepared to add diversity.
The works are composed of buildings directly conceptualized by members of the Gwangjin-gu Architects Association. They convey vividness by including building overviews, background explanations, photos, bird’s-eye views, and floor plans.
Moreover, visitors can see works not only by professionals but also by aspiring architects. The exhibition space is filled with creations from the Children’s Architecture School and students from Konkuk University and Sejong University.
The opening ceremony will take place on the first day starting at 2 p.m. Following congratulatory speeches from guests, two invited lectures are scheduled. Seok Jeong-hoon, the 33rd President of the Korea Institute of Registered Architects, will speak on ‘The Present and Future of Korean Architecture,’ and Oh Shin-hwan, Chairman of the People Power Party’s Metropolitan Vision Special Committee, will present on the theme ‘Innovatively Infusing Culture into the City.’
On December 3, the film ‘Bjarke Ingels’ Great Challenge’ will be screened. This documentary captures the dreams of an ambitious young architect, showing the hardships and hopes involved in the creative process over 90 minutes.
The exhibition is open to anyone interested for all three days from December 2 to 4. Visitors can freely attend on-site without prior registration.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “This is a great opportunity to experience a variety of high-quality exhibition works by local architects,” adding, “I thank the Gwangjin-gu Architects Association for their efforts in preparing the event, and we have prepared interesting and substantial content related to the specialized field of architecture, so we hope for much interest.”
