The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) announced on the 28th that it held the "2024 Intellectual Property Transaction Conference" at COEX in Seoul, a venue to share excellent intellectual property transaction achievements and know-how.
At the conference, outstanding intellectual property transaction achievements were shared, awards for contributions to intellectual property transactions were presented, and commendations for this year's intellectual property brokerage experts were given.
During the session for sharing excellent achievements, intellectual property brokerage experts and company representatives shared outstanding domestic and international intellectual property transaction brokerage cases with conference attendees, revealing know-how on how companies successfully commercialized by acquiring necessary technologies through intellectual property transactions for new product development and business expansion.
At the awards ceremony, Professor Seomun Jong from KAIST received a commendation from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy in recognition of his active efforts in establishing patent creation strategies for Korean science and technology and promoting technology transfer and commercialization through internal and external cooperation. The Commissioner of KIPO’s commendations were awarded to CEO Oh Daesung of ParkingGo Co., Ltd., Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, and Kim’s Ed Co., Ltd.
Notably, this year KIPO established the "Intellectual Property Brokerage Expert of the Year" award to highlight the role of intellectual property brokerage experts. The recipients of this year’s Intellectual Property Brokerage Expert award were Patent Attorney Kim Ju-yeon of Btwin Partners Co., Ltd. and Intellectual Property Transaction Specialist Kim Tae-su of the Korea Invention Promotion Association.
The outstanding national patent inventors included Researcher Kim Young-shin of the National Institute of Animal Science, Researcher Heo Sa-woo of the National Institute of Fisheries Science, and Researcher Kwon Jae-kyung of the National Institute of Forest Science.
Outside the venue, a separate intellectual property transaction consultation and promotional booth was operated to provide intellectual property transaction consulting for technology-demanding companies.
At the intellectual property transaction policy promotional booth, excellent products developed through intellectual property and idea transactions were exhibited, and introductions to KIPO’s intellectual property transaction support projects as well as guidance on how to use the "National Intellectual Property Transaction Platform (IP-Market)" and "Idearo" were provided.
Kim Jeong-gyun, Director of the Industrial Property Policy Bureau at KIPO, said, “The conference was organized to introduce and disseminate excellent achievements of intellectual property transactions utilized in the field by companies so far. We will make this event an opportunity to gain useful information such as know-how on utilizing intellectual property transactions.”
