Silla University Department of English Education Wins Grand Prize at 'AI and Digital Convergence Education Content Development Competition'

Shilla University (President Heo Nam-sik) announced on the 28th that Kim Ju-hyang, a student in the Department of English Education, won the Grand Prize at the ‘2024 AI·Digital Convergence Education Content Development Competition.’


The ‘2024 AI·Digital Convergence Education Content Development Competition,’ jointly hosted by the Ministry of Education, Busan City, Ulsan City, and Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education, and co-organized by the Busan National University Comprehensive Teacher Training Center, Busan National University of Education Future Education Institute, and AIEDAP Gyeongnam Regional Project Support Group, was held on the 22nd at the 10.16 Memorial Hall of Busan National University.


This competition was designed as an opportunity for pre-service teachers to propose innovative learning methods that adapt to the rapidly changing educational environment and enhance students’ creativity and problem-solving skills. Kim Ju-hyang from Shilla University’s Department of English Education participated and earned the honor of the Grand Prize.


Kim Ju-hyang devised a project-based class addressing a specific problem situation called the ‘Environmental Problem Solution Video Contest,’ presenting a three-session class model that encourages students’ creative thinking and digital technology utilization through △ selecting solutions and expanding ideas using Magic School △ scriptwriting using SnorkL △ video production using Vrew at each stage of learning, which received high praise.


Kim Ju-hyang, who won the Grand Prize, said, “It became an opportunity to set a direction for future education while contemplating what kind of class model can effectively achieve learning objectives and how to resolve ethical issues related to the use of AI tools,” adding, “I am grateful for the chance to reflect and gain experience to grow as a better teacher.”


The Department of English Education at Shilla University actively supports student growth by operating various programs to strengthen AI technology and digital competencies. It has achieved high results in various external competitions, including producing award-winning teams at the ‘IGT (I am a Global Teacher) Global Mock Teaching Demonstration National Competition’ hosted by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea, and strives to contribute to the development and innovation in the field of future education.
