Government Explores Cultural Policy Directions for the Next 10 Years

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute will hold a public forum on the 28th at the National Museum of Korea in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, to establish 'Cultural Vision 2035.'

Based on expert opinions from various fields such as culture and arts, content, tourism, and sports, the two organizations will announce the draft of 'Cultural Vision 2035,' which outlines the direction and tasks of future cultural policy. It addresses cultural policy responses to domestic and international environmental changes such as changes in the ways culture, tourism, and sports are enjoyed, industrial conditions, demographic changes and regional extinction, intensification of social conflicts and community disintegration, technological development and commercialization of artificial intelligence (AI), worsening climate crisis, and Korea’s international status. The draft also includes four major policy tasks: strengthening cultural capabilities, innovating the cultural industry ecosystem, seeking a sustainable society through culture, and establishing a foundation for international cultural exchange.

Experts will evaluate and discuss this. Lee Hyung-hwan, Vice President of Chung-Ang University, will serve as the chair, and discussants include Seo Woo-seok, professor of Urban Sociology at the University of Seoul; Lee Eun-kyung, president of the Korean Theatre Critics Association; Seon Ho, director of Strategic Support at CJ ENM; Jeong Hyun-woo, professor of Physical Education at Seoul National University; and Lim Hye-min, CEO of Creatrip.

Hwang Seong-woon, Director of Planning and Coordination at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "To actively respond to the social issues we face, we must cultivate a cultural soil that fosters creativity, insight, and sensitivity," adding, "We will gather various opinions to complete 'Cultural Vision 2035' to open the future through the power of culture."
